# Tax, currencies and dates

> How to add tax to your documents, pick a currency and how it's displayed, and use Gregorian or Hijri dates.

## Tax

**Your default tax**: in **Settings** under **Financial**, turn on **Add tax to new documents** and enter the rate. It's applied to every new document automatically.

**Tax on one document**:

* When you create it: in **Tax**, pick **No tax**, VAT 15%, or a tax you added yourself.
* In the editor: under the items, turn **Add tax** on or off, and pick the **Tax rate**: VAT 15% or Tax 5%.

Muqtarah calculates the subtotal, the tax amount and the total automatically whenever you change the items.

**Taxes with your own names**: add a tax with a name and rate in **Settings** under **Financial**, in **Other taxes**, or with **Add a custom tax** when you create a document. It's saved to your account for all your future documents.

### Tax numbers

* Your tax number goes in **Settings** under **Personal info**.
* Your client's tax number goes on their card in **Clients**.

You can hide either of them from a specific document in the **Client** section settings in the editor.

<Warning>
  Muqtarah isn't an accounting system and doesn't issue e-invoices connected to ZATCA's Fatoora platform (no QR code or XML file). Meeting the tax and invoicing requirements in your country is your responsibility.
</Warning>

## Currencies

Available currencies: Saudi Riyal, UAE Dirham, Kuwaiti Dinar, Qatari Riyal, Bahraini Dinar, Omani Riyal, US Dollar and Euro.

* **A document's currency**: your default currency at the time you create it. Change it in **Settings** under **Financial**, in **Default currency**.
* **How the currency is displayed**: in **Settings** under **Preferences**, in **Currency display**: the code (SAR), the symbol (﷼) or the name (Saudi Riyal).

<Tip>
  Need one document in a different currency? Change your default currency, create the document, then switch it back.
</Tip>

## Dates and numbers

* **Document date**: starts as today, and you change it in the **Date** field at the top of the document.
* **Calendar**: in **Settings** under **Preferences**, choose Gregorian, Hijri or both.
* **Numbers**: in the same place, choose 123 or ١٢٣.
* **Proposal validity**: set **Valid for** in days in the editor, and your client sees the date it expires.
